A break from animating

I took a break from animating and did some color sketches. These are probably going to look oversaturated on other computers; my monitor seems to be a bit wonky, color-wise. I already see a lot that I want to change, but take a look. It's turning out to be challenging to pick colors for the guy because they have to work against the ground and against the wall. I might go with what I have in the animatic and make the ground a similar color to the wall.

I used to want the whole place to appear to be made out of dirt, but now I'm not so sure it matters. I kind of have gotten used to the yellow look.

I like the first one better, but the guy stands out better in the second one and seems like more of an outsider. Take that as you will.

I LOVE the first one...and it's not just because I like orange, even though that has a lot to do with it. I think the guy fits into the setting much more, and I think that the golden light effect would look so magical throughout the fairy rave. I want to hang out with these fairies!! They used to scare me, but now they're just damned cute!

I also worry about the character standing out from the BG, although I like the washed-out surreal effect of the over-saturated BG. It has sort of an atomic explosion look to it. Is this palette similar to your other scenes?

I think this would be the palette for all the fairy scenes. The scenes when the guy is outside will be muted with a lot of blue.

The human party will be sort of more "normal" colors - not as saturated as this, but probably still pretty warm. I'm going to do color sketches for all the palettes as soon as I finish the rough animation.
